According to a preliminary report of the bi-national observatory on migration, education, the environment and trade (OBMEC) composed of a group of Haitian and Dominican universities, which conducted a survey on education sector funded by the European Union, about 48,000 Haitian students studying in the Dominican Republic (32,000 at the basic level and 6,000 in higher education). More than 80% continue their education in public schools; nearly 13% in private institutions and the rest in the semi-formal sector (source 2013 Department of Planning of the Dominican Ministry of Education).

In addition, must be added to these 48,000 students, more than 12,000 Haitian students studying at 23 public and private Dominican universities in sectors such as medicine, nursing, business administration, international relations, civil engineering and tourism (Source 2013 : Dominican Ministry of Education).

Santiago, Santo Domingo and Higüey are the places where the largest quantity of Haitian immigrants is concentrated.
