Haiti - FLASH : Haiti will lift road transport ban for DR

Tuesday at the National Palace, in the presence of Ministers Pierrot Délienne (Foreign Affairs), Yves R. Bastien (Economy and Finance), Jessy C. Petit-Frère (Commerce), of General secretary, Antony Barbier and Jean-Max Bellerive, Chief of Staff of the Presidency, the de facto President of Haiti Jocelerme Privert received the new Dominican Foreign Minister, Miguel Vargas Maldonado.

The Head of State mentioned several points of the conjuncture with the Dominican chancellor and discussed the urgent need for a harmonious collaboration between the two countries. The migration problem, investments, trade issues and transportation were also discussed.

Vargas has proposed periodic meetings to restore the tasks of the Joint Bilateral Commission, noting that the two countries "must put aside what disunited them and engage in an agenda of actions from points, that open the way to new ideas of commercial and cultural relations, respecting the specific characteristics of the two countries."

In the presence of members of the press, the President Privert and Dominican and Haitian Chancellors discussed major issues concerning the two neighboring countries. After a short head-to-head at the end of these discussions, a joint press conference was given to Haitian and foreign journalists.

It should be noted, of Dominican official sources, that during this visit the Haitian Chancellor Pierrot Délienne, during a meeting with his Dominican counterpart, said that the Haitian government has promised to lift in the coming days, the transport ban by road, of 23 Dominican products, in force since 1 October 2015 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-15156-haiti-notice-import-ban-by-road-of-certain-products-from-dr.html Chancellor Délienne said the only condition is that the Dominicans meet the payment of customs duties.
