Haiti - Elections : A political decision of CEP contested

The Federation of Women of Haiti (FFH) wrote to Léopold Berlanger, President of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), regarding the decision to reject the candidate Ogline Pierre of upcoming elections.

The facts :

On the basis of results published by the CEP in the 1st round of the legislative August 9, 2015 Ogline Pierre (Platform PHTK) and Augustin Bertin (Vérité)had qualified for the 2nd round; October 25, 2015 the second round is held between the two candidates, after treatment of contestation by the National Electoral Office of Litigation (BCEN) has decided to resume the second round between the two candidates;

In August 2016 the CEP opened an administrative investigation on the constituency Camp-Perrin and Maniche on the basis of a complaint lodged by the losing candidate of the 1st round Jean Wilfrid Lovence.

This investigation commission recommends to the Electoral Council to organize October 9, 2016 the second round of partial legislative for the constituency of Camp-Perrin Maniche with the 3 candidates Jean Wilfrid Lovence, Bertin Augustin and Ogline Pierre.

"Against all odds, for political reasons, the candidate Ogline Pierre, qualify for the 2nd round for over one year was rejected by the CEP. FFH asks the Council to fairly apply the recommendation of its investigation commission."
