Haiti - Humanitarian : Spain alongside Haiti
It is with dismay and deep disarray, that the Spanish Government has followed the news of the devastation caused by the passage of Matthew hurricane in the Caribbean, which caused significant damage in many countries and especially in Haiti who officially reported in a provisional toll, nearly 300 dead https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18849-haiti-flash-271-deceased-provisional-report-update.html and countless damage mainly in the South and Grande-Anse of country.

The Spanish Government presents its sincere condolences to the relatives and friends of the victims and to the people and authorities of Haiti.

In order to face this new urgency, Spain has maintained from the beginning, continuous contact with the Directorate General of Civil Protection and the Department of Water and Sanitation (DINEPA), with whom it has worked since many years.

hursday, Spain promised to the Haitian Civil Protection, that in the coming hours will come a cargo with shelter materials, water purification and water storage. This airlift, co-chartered with the World Food Program (WFP), will take off from humanitarian logistics base in Panama. The total cost of this operation is estimated to 150,000 euros.

Moreover, it is expected that over the coming weeks, the Spanish Cooperation, established in Haiti since 1991, accompanying the repair work of water infrastructure, that will realize DINEPA. The Technical Cooperation Office is in permanent contact with the Spanish NGOs working in Haiti and the United Nations agencies to continue to assess the needs and to effectively coordinate humanitarian aid.
