Haiti - FLASH : Sadness and message of Pope Francis
Sunday at the Angelus pronounced in St. Peter in Rome at the end of the Mass celebrating the Marian Jubilee, the Holy Father told his "pain" on the "serious consequences caused by the hurricane that hit in recent days the Caribbean, especially Haiti, causing many casualties and displaced persons, beyond the considerable material damage."

The Pope expressed his closeness and trust "in the sense of solidarity of the international community, of Catholic institutions and people of good will."

In a condolence telegram to Cardinal Chibly Langlois, released October 7, Pope Francis has expressed his "sadness" and assured his prayers for Haiti after the passage of Hurricane and encouraged "solidarity implemented in this new event affecting the country."

Learning the devastation wrought on its passage by Hurricane Matthew, which has claimed many lives and caused considerable damage, His Holiness Pope Francis sharing his sadness and he joined in prayer to the pain of all those
who lost a loved one. He expressed his deep condolences and assured them of his deep sympathy in these painful circumstances. He entrusts the deceased to the mercy of God, so that they are welcomed in its light. He assures of his spiritual closeness and his affection the injured and all those who have lost their homes and belongings in the disaster. Welcoming and encouraging the solidarity implemented in this new event affecting the country, the Holy Father entrusts all Haitians to the maternal protection of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and address them as comforting pledge and hope, a special Apostolic Blessing.
