Monday at the National Palace, the de facto President Jocelerme Privert, received the credentials of the new Ambassador of Germany in Haiti, Manfred Auster.

In his words of circumstance, the new diplomat declared "[...] I am very happy to be here in Haiti as new Ambassador of Germany. I arrived some weeks ago, just before the storm, unfortunately this is a very serious situation for your country [...] I am convinced that I want to help in order, by putting at the disposal of international and national organizations, non-government support of about 2 million euros, together with our partners in the European Union we are assisting people in the South and the Southwest but also in the Northwest [...]

We have a long tradition of relations between Germany and Haiti, which dates from the time of your independence in 1804 [...] I am quite prepared to continue this positive tradition between our countries and our peoples [...]"

For his part Jocelerme Privert reassured the German diplomat for his willingness to work to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Haiti and Germany.
