Haiti - Agriculture : $500,000 of emergency aid for the Goâve region and Nippes
Friday, as part of the post Matthew response plan, Arnoux Severin, Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR), held a working meeting with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the United Nations development Programme (UNDP) and the Irrigation Users Committees of PPI-3 (Irrigation Development Project in the Irrigated Areas).

The Ministry sought and obtained the assistance of IFAD for an emergency project for the benefit of Goâve region and Nippes. This is a project to re-functioning of Agricultural infrastructure, which will affect 5 communes (Grand-Goâve, Petit-Goâve, Miragoâne, Petite Rivière, Anse-à-veau).

With a duration of 3 months, funded to the tune of 500,000 US dollars, the period of execution of this project will coincide with the winter campaign 2016 and should begin the second week of November 2016.

18.8 million Gourdes will be invested to create immediate jobs for the benefit of 60,600 people / day for cleaning and rehabilitation of irrigation canals, more than 6 million to correct gullies over a length of 5 km that threaten 32 agricultural areas and 6 buildings hosting the Agricultural Departmental Directorates (DDT) and the Communal Agricultural Offices (BAC) will be rehabilitated.

The coordination of action will be provided by the General Directorate with the technical assistance of the Agricultural Infrastructure Directorate (DIA) and Soil Resources and Forestry (DRSF).
