Haiti - Port-Salut : Rehabilitation of main water supply system

Thanks to funding from the Government of Norway and with the technical support of United Nations Environment Organization (UNEO), the local Artisanal Fisheries Organization for Integrated Development (PADI) in partnership with responsible of Water supply system of Potable Water (SAEP) of Port Salut proceeded to the rehabilitation of a portion of the water supply system feeding the central part of Port Salut, specifically the network supplied by sources Grand Kay and Manzè Anne (Trouillac). This system that supplies nearly 10,000 people, was severely damaged following the passage of Matthew in the South of Haiti.

"Our work consisted to release the trunks of trees that have fallen on the supply line, over a distance of about three kilometers, and to replace some pipes and fittings," explained Joël Samedy, the engineer of the PADI responsible for teh work "After assessing the damage, we proceeded to the cleaning of the capture and galvanized steel pipes as well as tanks."

This work will allow some of the inhabitants of Port Salut, to benefit again of the distribution of drinking water at home.
