Haiti - Diplomacy : The International invites the Haitian people to exercise their right to vote

Sandra Honoré, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the members of the “Core Group” (the Ambassadors of Brazil, Canada, France, the United States of America, the European Union and the Special Representative of the Organization of American States) acknowledge "the measures taken by the national authorities to facilitate the holding of peaceful, inclusive and transparent elections on 20 November, despite the challenges following the passage of Hurricane Matthew.

Sunday’s vote will mark a critical step towards the return to full Constitutional order for the consolidation of stability and democratic rule. Despite a few isolated cases of violent incidents, the “Core Group” is encouraged by the generally peaceful conduct of the electoral campaignand underscores the importance for all necessary action to be taken to prevent violence and intimidation on Election Day and to sanction all those who may be found responsible. The “Core Group” hopes that all actors will continue to make constructive contributions to ensure a serene climate that allows all citizens to freely choose their political representatives.

In this spirit, it calls on all Haitians to exercise their constitutional right to vote on 20 November, thereby strengthening institutional governance and shaping the country’s future."
