The former teacher, author and well-known and respected feminist Haitian activist Odette Roy Fombrun (99), crowned "Living National Treasure" in 2009, launches an appeal to presidential candidates, while the population looks forward this Monday, November 28th the preliminary results of the elections of November 20, promised by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP). It should be noted that on Sunday afternoon the Voting Tabulation Centre (CTV) was still carrying out its counting operations and that the CTV had not yet sent results to the CEP...

Appeal to Presidential Candidates :

"[...] Only one of you will be elected. It will be confronted with this situation of economic catastrophe : earthquake, hurricane and bad management have destroyed everything, misery is everywhere. It takes billions to rebuild and no country accepts borrowing from a non-solvent country. In addition, 70% of the budget depends on foreign countries. The elected official must admit that alone it will not be able to solve the so many problems. It must accept the offer of services of non-winners, all leaders of political parties.

As many have already done, accept to recognize the elected and commit yourself to participate in the rescue of the country. Thus, the elected official can undertake to constitute with you the States-General of the nation, inclusive and participative, in order to reach to develop a National Rescue Plan, a kind of Marshal Plan for the reconstruction of Haiti.

It is imperative that Haitians and friendly countries of Haiti undertake to support Haiti and that investors return in our country.

This is the only exit door I see in this tragic situation. Stop the street troubles. Admit that this electoral system does not suit us. Put yourself together to finally engage the country in the path that should lead it to occupy its rightful place and that our perpetual disputes and disorders prevent it from occupying [...]
