Haiti - Economy : Inflation continues to rise at double digits

The General Index of Consumer Prices (base 100 in August 2004) stood at 281.3 in October against 276.4 in September, an acceleration in inflation in both monthly rates (1.8% in October versus 1.3% in September) and annual (13.3% in October versus 12.5% in September).

La hausse mensuelle de l’inflation est principalement le résultat du comportement des fonctions : « Alimentation, Boissons et Tabac » (+2.1%), « Habillement et Tissus, Chaussures » (+ 2.1%), « Loyer du Logement, Énergie et Eau » (+1.9%), « Aménagement Équipement et Entretien du Logement » (+2.0%) et « Autres biens et services » (+1.7%).

The positive change in the food, beverages and tobacco function, which accounts for over 50% of the household budget, comes from millet (+ 3.2%), corn flakes (+ 2.6%), beef (+ 3.6%), pork (+ 6.4%) and pork (+ 3.5%), chicken (+ 3.6%), hotdog (3.1%), carrot (+ 3.9%), tomato (+ 3.0%), yam (+2.4%), eggplant (+ 2.7%), potato (+ 4.3%), orange (+ 3.7%), lemon (+ 7.2%), raw sugar (+ 6.1%) and refined sugar (+ 5.7%).

The increase in "clothing, fabrics and footwear" function was mainly due to higher textile prices (+ 2.1%), suit, universal jacket (+ 3.5%), men's t-shirt (+ 2.7%) , Trousers for men (+ 2.8%), dress (+ 6.5%), and sandals (+ 1.1%).

The upward trend observed in the "Accommodation, Equipment and Maintenance of Housing" index follows the increase in the price of living room furniture (+ 2.2%), the dining room (+ 3.0%), Bed linen (+ 2.0%), curtains (+ 3.2%), tablecloths (+ 3.8%), laundry soap (+ 3.0%), and detergents + 3.7%).

Finally, the increase in the function of "Other goods and services" is mainly due to the increase in prices of toothpaste (+ 6.2%) and toilet powder (+ 10.1%).
