Haiti - Justice : The right to demonstrate is not a right to destroy !

Me Camille Edouard Junior, Minister of Justice and Public Security, wishes to remind to all our citizens that the right to demonstrate, a prerogative recognized by our constitution, is not a right to destroy or burn property or the right to assault the people; the demonstrations must not be likely to disturb public order.

The Minister urges the demonstrators to reject violence in all its forms for the consolidation of democracy and the rule of law.

The Minister recalled that challenges must follow legal channels because it is necessary to maintain public order for the security of the population and the stability of the country. Challenges relating to electoral operations must not respond to calls for anarchy. Complaints must be lodged with the bodies set up for this purpose in order to preserve the acquired from the ballot of 20 November 2016.

The Minister of Justice appeals to the responsibility of all by reassuring the population of his very firm instructions to the judicial authorities to engage the responsibility of all those who have committed illegal acts.
