Haiti - European Union : Reconstruction and development of neighborhoods, positive results of PARAQ 09/12/2016 08:53:39 74.5 million euros, of which 55.8 were financed by the European Union, were spent on 10 urban development projects, including 8 in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince and 2 in Petit-Goâve, said Vincent Dégert, stressing that this program was carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Public Works and the Haitian public institutions involved in urban planning, in particular the Interministerial Committee for Territorial Development (CIAT) and the Unit for the Construction of Public Housing and Buildings (UCLBP). Moreover, PARAQ has systematically put in place a "participatory" approach by putting the inhabitants at the heart of the reflection and the decisions so that the results respond to the real and expressed needs of the neighborhoods : from the construction of roads to the development of gullies or the renovation of a market, everything was decided jointly with the inhabitants, the public authorities (town halls, government bodies...) and the urban planning experts of the EU"In essence, it was a matter of rethinking the whole of a given neighborhood, in order to give it coherence and to respond to the real needs of the inhabitants of the neighborhoods," explained the Ambassador. Some figures : In total there are 9 development plans for neighborhoods : Baillergeau, Martissant, Delmas, Christ-Roi, Grand ravine, Carrefour, Petit-Goâve, Haut Turgeau/Debussy and Desprez ; 170,000 people benefited from the public amenities (squares, corridors, roads, gully developments, neighborhood houses, libraries, etc.) as well as individual houses; 1,300 building professionals have been trained in safe construction and more than 5,800 familiessensitized ; 1,000 homes have been rehabilitated or rebuilt; 11,500 m of development of corridors, roads and gullies were completed; 60 companies have been set up to implement new income-generating activities.
