Haiti - Politics : OPC sensitizes mayors to civic responsibility
The Office for the Protection of the Citizen (OPC) organized a Conference-Debate for members of the National Federation of Mayors of Haiti (FENAMH), of the National Federation of the CASEC of Haiti (FENACAH) and those of the National Federation of the ASEC of Haiti (FENASEC).

This activity, which gathered around 60 participants, was mainly aimed at helping actors to define common strategies for strengthening local and regional authorities and to encourage actors to become responsible and credible authorities of the State.

In his speech, Mr. Jude JN Pierre, the Director of the Promotion of Human Rights at the OPC, emphasized on the responsibility and citizen participation. Through this dynamic of exchange, discussion and sharing of experiences, between stakeholders and the participants this Conference-Debate has proved to be a good way to support communities and foster greater transparency in their functioning and a better efficiency in their action.

According to the OPC, the results of this sharing of experiences will contribute to consolidating the role of the Territorial Collectivities in the implementation of the public policies of the government for the benefit of the population.

At the end of the conference, the OPC expressed hope that the authorities of the various municipalities of the country will become the symbol of actors and vectors of changes advocated by an extensive decentralization.
