Monday at the National Palace, on the occasion of the end-of-year celebrations and the new year, de facto President Jocelerme Privert, accompanied by his wife Ginette, received the Diplomatic and Consular Corps.

In the presence of Prime Minister Enex Jean-Charles, Foreign Minister Pierrot Délienne, Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Sandra Honoré, Ambassadors accredited to Haiti, Honorary Consuls and representatives of International organizations have presented to the Head of State their respective wishes.

"On this solemn day marked by the Christmas and New Year celebrations, as well as by the imminent commemoration of the independence of the Republic and the Fathers of the Nation, I have the honor to present to you, on behalf of Ambassadors accredited to Haiti, honorary consuls and representatives of international organizations, our most sincere wishes for peace, happiness and prosperity, "declared Eugene Martin Nugent, the Apostolic Nuncio and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps.

Jocelerme Privert, while recalling the many efforts made by his administration to establish stability in the country and to ensure the well-being of all citizens, expressed his best wishes to his guests of the Diplomatic Corps "I take advantage of tThese moments of conviviality, exchange and sharing, to present, on behalf of the Haitian people, and in my own name, the best wishes for a Merry Christmas 2016 and a Happy New Year 2017," also welcoming the fruitful and beneficial cooperation of Haiti with the many friendly countries.

"The challenges were enormous and the perils still imminent. No false step was allowed, at the risk of stumbling on our mission, jeopardizing the future of our country in the short and medium term, and undermining the attentive contribution of our friends in the international community and all sacrifices made by the Haitian people," declared Privert, who reiterated his determination to achieve political stabilization in Haiti, to face social insecurity and to restore confidence in the institutions and authorities of the State.

The de facto president, while wishing a Merry Christmas 2016 and a Happy New Year 2017 to all Haitians of Haiti or from the outside, hopes that the new authorities that will be set up on 7 February will bring Haiti into a virtuous circle of growth, confidence and political stability.
