Haiti - Policy : Improving access to justice for women 28/12/2016 10:14:39
This Wednesday morning was held at the Heberson Hotel, Gonaives, the launch of the 7-month project "Consolidation of the responsibility and accountability of state actors (police and justice) and local security committees on violence against women in three communes of the department of Artibonite." The project is of the type: awareness, security & stability, violence based on gender and institutional support and target areas of Gonaïves, Marmelade, Département and of the Artibonite. The $ 200,000 project is implemented by UN Women in collaboration with the Ministry for the Status of Women and Women's Rights (MCFDF), the Coordination of Women's Affairs, the Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Communities, Justice and Public Security, the Oganizasyon Fanm Solid Latibonit, the Women in Action Association of Gros-Morne and the Women's Platform of St-Michel de l'Attalaye. The beneficiaries will directly be 100 women and girls victims of violence of the municipalities of Gonaives, Gros Morne and Saint-Michel de l'Attalaye and justices of the peace, prosecutors, mayors and members of CASEC and ASEC; and indirectly 50,000 members of the 3 targeted communities The overall objective of the project is to improve access to justice for women and girls in the municipalities of Gonaïves, Gros-Morne and Saint-Michel de l'Attalaye by strengthening the responsibility and accountability of institutions working in the sector of the Justice in the prevention and response to violence against women. And the specific objective and to train the state actors - judges of peace, prosecutors, the Mayors and Members of CASEC and ASEC - in gender, human rights, sexual violence and legal accompaniment of women and girls victims of sexual violence; Strengthening coordination capacities and mechanisms at departmental and communal level to improve the provision of security and justice for women victims of violence; And conduct an awareness campaign to change behavior and implement small programs to support women victims of violence. The main activities of the project will be the purchase and made available to the coordination of women's affairs, the general directorates of Gonaïves, Saint Michel l'Attalaye and Gros Morne of office consumables and computer, 9 training and sensitization workshops for Justices of the Peace, Trial and Prosecution Offices, CASEC and ASEC members on women's rights, on the guidelines issued by UN Women, the judicial process in force, the collection, processing and analysis of data and court records on violence against women, a social mobilization and awareness campaign for behavioral change, a close campaign with the women and girls of the communes and women's organizations, medical and health care for the victims, obtaining medical certificates, judicial referral and support, mediation and social reintegration of women and girls victims of sexual violence.
