Haiti - Politics : Greetings from Sandra Honoré

On the occasion of the New Year, Sandra Honoré, Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Haiti and MINUSTAH civilian chief salutes the courage and dignity of the Haitian people face the many challenges, humanitarian, economic, security and political of the year, and commends the Haitian for the resumption of the electoral process, crucial for the consolidation of democracy, stability and sustainable development of Haiti.

She presents "her most sincere wishes of happiness to Haitians and Haitians for the new year 2017 and hopes that this new year will be a year of peace and prosperity for all."

"[...] The year 2017 will be that of the return to the constitutional order which will allow a new rise ...] With new institutions elected democratically, Haiti will be able to concentrate on its economic and social future in order to offer to all Haitians the future they deserve in Peace, stability and prosperity.

January 1, 2017 marks the 213th year of the independence of the Republic of Haiti. This anniversary is a privileged moment to remember the spirit of unity and dedication with which the founding fathers and mothers of the Republic built this Nation nd project a future where the gains gained are preserved for the benefit of the entire population, in particular youth."

Honoré wishes that 2017 "be a year of union and solidarity between sectors of society, social classes, between regions and between generations, proving how 'the Union is strength'."

She reiterates finally the full support of the United Nations system in Haiti, recalling that this new year "will mark a reconfiguration of the presence of the United Nations in Haiti, in agreement with the national authorities and Haitian civil society, aimed at redefining support for economic and social development as well as security, the rule of law, good governance and human rights."
