Haiti - Social : Commemoration activities in memory of the disappeared
Marc Aurèle Garcia, the Minister of Culture, announced that the activities to commemorate the earthquake in January 2010 will include first an official ceremony on the memorial site of Morne Saint-Christophe (Cabaret) on the morning of 12 January 2017. Then, there will be a special concert at the Kiosk Occide Jeanty, Champs de mars, around 2 p.m.

Patrick Durandis, the Director General of the Institute for the Preservation of National Heritage (ISPAN), added that on 14 January 2017 a major international-level philharmonic concert will be organized at the heritage site of the Palais Sans-Souci in Cap-Haïtien. The purpose of the concert, which will feature three philharmonic orchestras including two of the American universities Yale and Cornell and the Orchestra of the Holy Trinity School of Music, is to celebrate life, the living and contribute to advocacy efforts on a possible earthquake in Cap-Haïtien and the need to upgrade to earthquake-resistant standards, the prestigious monuments such as the Sans Souci Palace and the Citadelle Henri.

David César and Madame Bernadette William, representatives of the Sainte Trinité Orchestra, a member of the Coordination Commission for the event, insisted on the performance program of the various philharmonic orchestras that will enhance this year the commemoration of January 12, 2010. Father Caesar said that the orchestras will in their way valorize and review the heritage of the of the instrumental of Haiti.
