Haiti - Politics : New Bureau in the lower house, blockade in the Senate

Tuesday, Deputy Cholzer Chancy was re-elected as President of the Lower House by acclamation and the members of the Bureau of the Chamber were elected.

Composition of the new Bureau of the Chamber of Deputies :

Cholzer Chancy, President (AAA)

Jacques Saint-Louis, Vice-President of the Sessions (PHTK)

Enel Apollon, Vice President, to the Administrative Affairs (Pitit Dessalines)

Jean Willer Jean, 1st Secretary (KID)

Hermano Exinord, 2nd Secretary (INITE)

Gary Bodeau, Quaestor (BOUCLIER)

Luc Claude Guillaume, Vice-Quaestor (Renmen Ayiti)

"Thanks to the honorable colleagues deputies who elected me as President of the Chamber of Deputies for a second term," declared Cholzer Chancy.

At the level of the Senate the situation is more complicated and the election of the Bureau could not take place as planned, several senators having expressed the desire to be a candidate for President of the Bureau. The Senators of Artibonite Youri Latortue (favorite in the race) and Carl Murat Cantave, have not yet found the necessary consensus and the absence of a quorum (14 senators on roll-call) prevented the meeting.

According to our information, Senator Jean Renel Sénatus (Groupe du Center) suggests that he will also run for the Senate presidency.

Note that Ronald Larèche, the outgoing President of the Upper House, has discharged of his responsibilities. For now, the Senate is paralyzed and cannot make any administrative action or convene members of the Government until the election of a new Bureau.

The election of the bureau should be back on the agenda this Wednesday.
