Haiti - Education : Franco-Haitian cooperation, strengthened partnership

As a follow-up to the visit in March 2016 of a Haitian delegation composed of 12 senior officials to the "École Supérieure de l’Éducation Nationale, de l’Enseignement Supérieur et de la Recherche" (ESENESR) of Poitiers (France) to reflect on the definition of national training policy as well as the improvement of academic governance, ESENESR will carry out a mission in Haiti from 16 to 20 January 2017.

Organized in the framework of the strengthened Franco-Haitian partnership for the improvement of the Haitian education system, two new cooperation actions are taking place this week in Port-au-Prince :

Jean-Claude Chapu, Assistant to the Director, and Mario Cottron, a professor at the University of Poitiers, will take part in two workshops this week, alongside officials from the Ministry of Education and leaders of major universities. One will be devoted to strengthening the governance of higher education and research and the other to the definition of strategies to improve the supply of training. At the end of this work week, a road map should be drawn up.

On the other hand, the 5 members of the team of the "Réseau de création et d'accompagnement pédagogique" (CANOPÉ) of the French Ministry of National Education of ESENESR, will lead a joint workshop with the Directorates of the Haitian Ministry of Education in charge of the creation of content for digital education in order to optimize distance education. This workshop will make it possible to reflect on the challenges of distance education and the adaptation of the curricula of the New Secondary in order to initiate the concrete construction of a continuing education course on a platform dedicated to secondary school teachers. At the end of this workshop, the Haitian technical team of the Ministry should produce a specification concerning the establishment of such a platform.

For the record, the strengthened partnership in education signed by Presidents Hollande and Martelly in May 2015 focuses on strengthening bilingualism and the various components of knowledge, vocational training and academic cooperation. Since the launch of this partnership, 37 million Euros have already been committed.
