Haiti - Politics : EDH denies its responsibility
Following the floods that recently affected the plantations of peasants in the Artibonite Valley, the Electricity of Haiti (EDH) informs that contrary to the information reported in some media, the average flow of water discharged during the period from 11 January by the Péligre hydro plant (281,25m3/s), can not in any way cause floods, which probably result from the flooding of the Rivers Fer à Cheval and Lathème located downstream of Péligre.

Recall that on 11 January the EDH "[...] having noticed a difference in water level rise of more than 2.5 meters, increasing the elevation of the reservoir to 167.2 m. In view of the readings recorded by the observers of the water level measurement stations located upstream of the Guayamonc and Los Abeyos rivers and given the impossibility of storing this water upstream of the dam because of the requirements related to the rehabilitation works of Péligre, in agreement with one of the Heads of the Development Agency of the Artibonite Valley (ODVA), we evacuated an average flow of 281,25m3/sof water, ie 14,05% of our evacuation capacity.

Therefore, the EDH denies any involvement in the unfortunate events affecting the plantations of the peasants of the Artibonite Valley."
