Haiti - Politics : Ministry of Justice calls to order ONI strikers

In a note, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security said it noted "With amazement the circulation in the media of a correspondence sent to him by members of a union of the National Office of Identification (ONI) whose a copy was sent to the Presidency and the Prime Minister."

"[...] The members of this union took the public road to denounce abuses on the management of the ONI by the Director General, Mr. Wilson Fièvre, on the basis of rumors or unverified information, while organizing a strike whose the administration was not informed."

The Ministry fears a desire to disrupt the smooth running of the ONI "by guiding public opinion in the wrong direction."

The Ministry recalls that it "deals administratively and legally the information brought to its attention and reminds these employees of the obligation to respect the standards and the rules established by the law on the Civil Service. He therefore invites them to resume work immediately in order to serve the population."

The Ministry of Justice concluded its note by renewing its confidence in the Director General of the ONI in the exercise of its functions.
