Haiti - Politics : Signature with UNDP of the Local Governance Project

Friday, Aviol Fleurant, Minister of Planning and External Cooperation, accompanied by Ms. Magaly Beatrix C. Bien-Aimé, Director General of the Ministry, signed the final document "Support for Local Governance and Territorial Development" (AGLDT) with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP-Haiti), represented by Yvonne Helle.

In his speech, Minister Fleurant explained that this project has many objectives, including serving the country's urban and rural communities, in decent basic public services and in developing diverse livelihood opportunities.

He also stressed that the Government relies heavily on this project to include it in the design and implementation of deconcentration, decentralization and spatial planning reforms "by combining a support for policy formulation and steering of Public Policy and their operationalization in local pole of priority development, particularly in border zones."

Fleurant finally recalled that this project was in the wake of the implementation of the Strategic Plan of Development of Haïti (PSDH), particularly embracing the territorial and institutional refoundation.
