Haiti - Dominican Republic: 6 Haitians raped a female student at Villa Tapia

In the morning of Monday, 7 men, 6 of whom were Haitian nationals, sexually abused a 26-year-old university student in psychology in the municipality of Villa Tapia, Hermanas Mirabal Province, Dominican Republic, informed Tuesday the Dominican authorities.

According to the police report, the young girl, whose name is omitted to protect her privacy, was raped and beaten by 7 men inside her residence, where they also gagged three other members of her family. Before committing their act the individuals killed the 4 dogs of the residence. It is also stated in the report that these individuals also burgled two houses, taking with them a television, radio, money and several mobile phones.

Residents of the area deplore the coexistence with a large number of Haitian nationals living in this zone, some of whom, they say, are only committing crimes...

According to information from Sergeant Santos de Leon, commander of the region, about 20 people have been arrested, some have been identified, others are being identified. No confirmation that the perpetrators were among those arrested and questioned and no names were revealed.
