Haiti - FLASH : Error of Protocol Office, PM not inaugurated

Friday contrary, according to the announcement of the office of the Protocol of the National Palace in an official note https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-20191-haiti-flash-inauguration-of-the-prime-minister-this-morning.html , President Jovenel Moïse, did not proceded to the inauguration of the Prime Minister, Dr. Jack Guy Lafontant, that he appointed Thursday https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-20176-haiti-flash-jovenel-moise-chosen-dr-jack-guy-lafontant-as-prime-minister.html

The Office of Protocol of the National Palace, retracted a few hours later announcing that instead of the investiture (which requires prior ratification by the Prime Minister-designate and approval of its General Policy by The two Chambers), will take place "a special ceremony to officially present the Prime Minister to the Nation."

President Jovenel Moïse, has therefore proceeded Friday at the National Palace, at the official presentation of the Prime Minister. The ceremony was attended by First Lady Martine Moïse, the President of the Court of Cassation, Jules Cantave, the Diplomatic and Consular Corps, parliamentarians, members of the resigning government, members of political parties.

In his remarks, the Head of State first welcomed the trust placed in him by the Haitian population before declaring "The choice of Dr. Jack Guy Lafontant participates in the continuation of his commitment to endow the country with a hard-working, competent and united prime minister, born of the silent and suffering majority who wants the change of Haiti."

Jovenel Moïse took advantage of this presentation ceremony to call on Haitians, including members of the political class, to work with him to restore tolerance between the sons and daughters of Haiti. "We want serenity to facilitate the prosperity of Haiti... We have to get the state out of the street, because the country is tired with these incessant and fruitless fratricidal struggles."

For his part, Prime Minister-designate, Dr Jack Guy Lafontant, thanked the President of the Republic for choosing him and promised to be an opening man, a Prime Minister rallyer "I will ensure that all the promises of President Jovenel Moïse at the electoral campaign are realized to the extent possible.... As promised by the President of the Republic, we will strive to make Haiti a land more than never conducive to investment and business."

Believing in frank, sincere and patriotic collaboration with the Honorable Senators and Deputies for the success of development projects in Haiti, Prime Minister, Dr. Jack Guy Lafontant, hoped that parliamentarians will vote for the general policy he will present to them.

"Mr. Prime Minister, I know that you are going to get to work and take the necessary steps to have the confidence of Parliament on your statement of general policy. You have all my confidence, my collaborators are at your disposal to accompany you in the fulfillment of your new responsibilities.

The country needs a functional government that has the legitimacy to undertake the major reforms I promised. Prime Minister, you have my full confidence.

My staff are at your disposal to accompany you in the fulfillment of your new responsibilities," concluded the Head of State.
