Haiti - René Préval : Last tribute by Jovenel Moïse 12/03/2017 08:55:46 The funeral ceremony was attended by the wife of former President Preval, Mrs. Elisabeth D. Préval, children and family members, Presidents of both Houses of Parliament, Youri Latortue and Cholzer Chancy, Prime Minister Appointed Jack Guy Lafontant, the Secretary General of the International Organization of la Francophonie, Michaëlle Jean, former Heads of State, former Prime Ministers, parliamentarians, members of the Government, the Legislative Power, the Diplomatic and consular bodies, political organizations and civil society, rural organizations, the private business sector, international and religious organizations, representatives of CASEC and ASEC, and thousands of citizens. "I must admit this morning that to have to say farewell to you is a moment of great sadness and deep emotion," said Jovenel Moïse, who praised the advice of the late President, his simplicity, his spirit of dialogue and of compromise, the example of his disinterestedness and all the services he has rendered to the Nation. "Democrat convinced, we know what the Nation owes to our late President. His profound knowledge of Haitian political realities made him, the most remarkable politician of our time. During his two terms, René Préval managed to maintain a certain balance in Haitian political life," continued President Moïse , who took the opportunity to present his deepest sympathies to Mrs. Préval. He praised her ourage alongside former President Preval in his moments of anger, joy or sadness, failure or success. He sees in René Préval an exceptional patriot, who never wanted to leave his native land. A man who had a noble and generous vision of Haiti "A man who served his country thus never dies. His positive actions are not extinguished. They will always testify to his presence among us," insisted the Head of State, inviting the Haitians to continue the work of this son of Haiti, while learning all the lessons of his very great political experience. The funeral ceremony was co-celebrated by the Archbishop of Port-au-Prince, Archbishop Joseph Lafontant, and their Excellencies Messeigneurs Désinor Jean and Ducange Sylvain. After the ceremony, the funeral procession left for Marmelade, the hometown of René Préval, for the last homage and burial of the mortal remains.
