Following the cancellation on 26 January of President Michelle Bachelet's visit to Haiti due to the violent forest fires that ravaged several regions of her country, President Bachelet will be in Haiti on Monday, March 27 2017.

This official visit will be the first of a Head of State after the inauguration of President Jovenel Moïse on 7 February and will take place within the framework of the 80 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The President intends to confirm on the one hand the departure of the Chilean troops from the Minustah and to reaffirm on the other hand the commitment of Chile in the continuation of its contribution to the social and economic development of Haiti through the cooperation in various fields.

President Bachelet will meet her counterpart, Jovenel Moïse; will paid a visit to he Chilean troops based in Cap-Haïtien and Port-au-Prince and will visit the National School "Republic of Chile" rebuilt after the 2010 earthquake in the capital, thanks to a multi-sectoral project of the Chilean cooperation https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-8441-haiti-education-reconstruction-of-the-republic-of-chile-school.html . She will also meet Sandra Honoré, Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations and Head of the Minustah, in the context of coordinating the withdrawal of Chilean troops, scheduled for 15 April.

Before leaving Haiti, she will sign a bilateral agreement for the compatibility or the equivalence and the recognition of studies in the cycles of basic or fundamental education and of middle or secondary education.
