Haiti - Social : 11 Haitian migrants abandoned by a «coyote» in Nicaragua

Sunday morning, a smuggler (Coyote), who had promised to lead them to the border with Honduras, abandoned in Diriamba, Carazo Department (Nicaragua), 11 migrants from Haiti (5 adults and 6 children) on the river of the community of Ceniza, near the road of the seaside resort of La Boquita.

Shortly before noon, the National Police went to the scene and took the migrants to the Casares and La Boquita police station to collect the information and identify them before transferring them to Jinotepe, Carazo. The police ensured that it offered protection to 11 Haitians who, in search of better living conditions had left their country of origin.

So far "the coyote" has not been arrested or identified. The police did not provide more information about the Haitians and refused to comment on the investigations they are conducting on "coyotes" who abandon migrants, a common practice...

Last year, in the Carazo Department, which serves as a transit corridor for migrants attempting to reach the US border as the final destination, the Nicaraguan police recovered several groups of illegal migrants from Africa and Haiti, who had been abandoned to their fate and stripped of their possessions by unscrupulous smugglers.
