Haiti - Elections : The United States could support the cancellation of elections 07/01/2011 18:24:49
The U.S. government could support the cancellation of the first round of presidential elections in Haiti if that is suggested by the Organization of American States (OAS). Cheryl Mills, a counselor of the secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton, has declared that the United States are awaiting the results of the evaluation by the OAS of the vote of November 28, 2010.
The United States will evaluate the measures judged necessary by the panel of the OAS, including the cancellation of the vote and the holding of new elections", said Cheryl Mills.
The official, has however, avoided answer to a question about the possibility that Haitian President René Préval could remain in power beyond his mandate of five years.
