This week, Aviol Fleurant, Minister of Planning and External Cooperation, received Brian Shukan, the Chargé d'Affaires ai of the Embassy of the United States in Haiti.

Minister Fleurant stressed the need for alignment of US assistance with the new priorities of the Haitian Government as reflected in the various roadmaps reflecting the vision of President Moïse. They also discussed the need for good coordination between the actions of the Haitian state and NGOs, in order to avoid duplication on the ground.

Aviol Fleurant, highlighted the plan for the recovery of the Great South due to the damage caused by Hurricane Matthew : the construction of fishing villages in coastal regions, the establishment of community restaurants and school canteens, the drilling of wells in the villages and an operation to revive the reforestation, specifying to his interlocutor that the reconstruction of the Great South will be accompanied by a policy of development of territory established by the Government.

Concerning financing, he said that the government was seeing how to mobilize funds and orient the weak resources of the Treasury of the future budget towards the South, stressing that the Haitian government also counted on the cooperation of its international partners for the financing of the interventions selected at the level of the recovery plan "It is within the framework of this integrated vision that the Haitian Government seeks the support of the American Cooperation" concluded Minister Fleurant.

Shukan said he was pleased with the meeting and assured Minister Fleurant that he would follow up on the points raised.
