Haiti - FLASH : Nearly 60,000 Haitians fear that Trump will not renew the TPS

Nearly 60,000 Haitian nationals living in the United States, beneficiaries under the administration of former President Barack Obama of the Temporary Protection Status (TPS) expiring on July 22, 2017, are increasingly worried, they fear that the new administration of President Donald Trump does not renew or extend the TPS which would put them in a situation of deportation towards Haiti...

At a press conference in Little Haiti, attended by a dozen community groups, Haitian migrants asked the Trump administration to extend the TPS program.

Marleine Bastien, executive director of the organization Haitian women of Miami, who intervened on the occasion, estimated that deporting 58,000 people to Haiti is likely to worsen the situation in the country which is currently going through a very difficult time wishing a 18-month extension of this Program.

Farrah Larrieux, a Haitian TV personality and also a TPS entrepreneur, reminded President Trump that he had promised Haitians during his presidential campaign in Little Haiti that they would not be forgotten. She asked him to take into account that the Haitians concerned contribute to the American economy.

It should be noted that in March 2017, ten members of the South Florida delegation addressed a correspondence to the Secretary of Homeland Security, John F. Kelly, urging the Trump administration to extend the TPS program https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-20488-haiti-usa-us-elected-officials-are-asking-to-extend-the-tps-for-haitians.html
