Haiti - Education : Crisis at ENGA, the Ministry proposes solutions

Deeply concerned about the problems affecting the operation of the National School of Applied Geology (ENGA), following the demonstrations and demands of the students (need for a new premises and an operating budget...) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-20585-haiti-news-zapping.html , the Ministry of National Education informs the general public that several working sessions have been held with ENGA students and leaders to identify problems and consider solutions for the normal resumption of courses.

As part of these meetings, the Ministry proposed the following options :

In the short term, premises as been identified to temporarily accommodate ENGA students and administrative staff to enable them to complete the academic year 2016-2017;

In the medium term, the Ministry intends to find an appropriate premises for the proper functioning of the institution before the next academic year 2017-2018;

As from the vote of the State budget, the Ministry intends to allocate the minimum resources to improve the regular functioning of ENGA;

The Ministry proposes to set up a Joint Commission to work on the status of this academic institution, which does not yet have a clear tutelage linked to a university;

A dialogue channel is set up through representatives of the Minister's Cabinet in order to remain attentive to ENGA's needs and find ways and means to achieve this.

Following these proposals, the Ministry calls on students to resume their courses and to continue the dialogue in order to preserve the achievements of the academic year and thank them for their understanding. The Ministry ensures that it remains in their hearts and reiterates its will to work with them for the renewal of the ENGA.
