Haiti - Religion : An aid of $1,2 million from the Cor Unum 10/01/2011 09:31:37
The envoy "of the the Pope, Cardinal Robert Sarah, president of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, is in Haiti to bring the message of the Holy Father. Few hours before his departure for Rome had said about papal message "the message is really a message of proximity, of affection and mostly of proximity who wants to be a real participation of the Holy See at the country's reconstruction". The concrete dimension of this message will result by an aid of $1.2 million from the Cor Unum, the institution which distributes funds received by the Vatican. $800,000 will go to rebuilding schools and 400,000 for the reconstruction of churches.
During his visit, Cardinal Robert Sarah will visit some religious communities: "Sœurs du Christ-Roi" whose hospital was destroyed, the "Petites Sœurs de Sainte Thérèse de l'Enfant Jésus" who run a clinic for AIDS and Tuberculosis and the "Compagnie de Jésus", who had a retirement home and a school, which were destroyed by the earthquake of January 2010. During his visit to the "Compagnie de Jésus", Cardinal Sarah will lay the foundation stone of the the future "Collège Notre Dame des Anges".
- On January 11, the President of Cor Unum accompanied by Tejado Segundo, Under Secretary of State of Spain will meet President René Préval and visit the refugee camp of Acra Park where he will celebrate a mass.
- On 12 January, the Pope's message will be read during the Mass to commemorate the the earthquake's remembrance day.
- On January 13, Cardinal Robert Sarah will preside the Eucharist at the convent of the "Filles de Marie" "Parideans" where 15 religious died under the rubble and 12 others seriously injured.
