Haiti - FLASH : The Government would like to increase gasoline by more than 60%

On Tuesday, the government sat down with the leaders of trade union associations of public transport around the increase in the price of fuels at the pump.

The government has proposed that the price of a gallon of gasoline currently selling at around 189 gourdes per gallon be increased to 305 Gdes (+ 61%), the price of gallon of diesel currently of 149 Gdes increases to 237 gourdes (+ 59%) and the price of the gallon of kerosene currently 148 gourdes rose to 231 Gdes (+ 56%). Proposal of increase confirmed by Guichard Doré, Special Adviser to President Moïse, who explained that this proposal was aimed at restoring the parity of the price of fuels with the Dominican Republic in order to prevent the Dominican residents of the border continue to refuel at low prices in Haiti...

At the end of the meeting, no agreement was reached, the Government's proposals having been rejected by the trade union party. However, unions that say they are willing to accept a certain increase but not on the government's terms, should table a counter-proposal on Wednesday at the negotiating table, which would also include accompanying measures for public transport drivers.
