Haiti - Security : Preventive security measures for the summer period

Monday, in a press conference, Léon Ronsard Saint-Cyr, Secretary of State for Public Security, accompanied in particular by Pierre Richard Duplan, West Departmental Delegate and Commissioner Alain Auguste, West Departmental Director of the Haitian National Police (PNH) and other PNH executives, presented some preventive security measures for the summer period.

Secretary St Cyr reiterated the will of the Head of State and of Government to ensure the security of the population through the 10 departments of the country and indicated that the deployment of the police officers and a better communication of the population with the police are envisaged to curb the insecurity during the summer period. Citing as a measure the strengthening of the police presence in all departments, the establishment of a contingency plan to fight against insecurity via the prevention and the increase of vehicle inspections.

For his part, Pierre Richard Duplan declared "Strong measures will be taken to protect the goods and lives of the compatriots of the Diaspora who will be in Haiti for the rural festivals," ensuring "[...] a symbiosis of work between the police and the 10 departmental delegates will make it possible to track the bandits over the whole national territory."

Commissioner Auguste stressed that when we talk about security "everyone has to get involved" saying that security plans are already being developed and will be applied throughout the country to accompany the weakest of the population, reminding the public of emergency telephone numbers : 3841-1111 / 4703-2339 / 3820-1111 / 3821-1111 / 3347-7777 / 3888-2222
