Haiti - FLASH : Shake 4,5 in Haiti (UPDATE)

After the slight earthquake in the Nippes last week, felt at Paillant, Anse-à-Veau, Fond des Nègres, Petit Trou, Petite-Rivière https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21252-haiti-news-zapping.html , and then three days later Saturday, the slight quake which was felt at Péguy-Ville (Pétion-ville) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21262-haiti-flash-weather-alert-call-for-caution.html ; The Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC) informs this Tuesday "A slight shock was felt shortly before 3 pm at Jérémie in the Grand'Anse," then later declared "The earth also trembled at Anse-a-Veau. Strong shaking, felt for a short time, created a panic."

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), an earthquake of magnitude 4.5, at a depth of 10km, occurred at 3:01 pm, off the Golf de la Gonâve, 84km north of Jérémie, 216km North West of Port-au-Prince and 90km South West of Môle Saint Nicolas.

Update 21-06-2017 :

The Technical Unit of Seismology (UTS) of the BME informs for its part that the epicenter of this earthquake has not been located on any major fault known in Haiti, the shock was widely felt in the Department of Nippes, including to Anse-à-Veau, l'Azile, Petit Trou and Petite Rivière de Nippes, Paillant and Fond des Nègres.

Also the UTS reminds everyone that earthquakes are not predictable and can occur at any time. Therefore, faced the seismic threat, the preparatory actions remain of rigor : compliance with earthquake-resistant construction standards, behavioral learning before, during and after an earthquake.
