Haiti - Politics : Mayor of Port-au-Prince, concerned about neighborhood security 05/07/2017 11:51:14
On Tuesday, Ralph Youri Chevry, the Mayor of Port-au-Prince, had an important working session with the Coordinators and members of the Community Intervention Teams (EIC) in the various neighborhoods of the city, including Martissant, Bourdon, Turgeau, Croix Desprez, Grand-Ravine, Bolosse, Fort-mercredi, Christ-Roi, Carrefour Feuilles, Ti Bois and Petit Descayette, whose objective was to plan a large working meeting to be held at the end of the month on the vulnerability of the neighborhoods in case of bad weather or major natural events. In his speech, Mayor Chevry insisted on the need for the EICs to work in harmony with the Boards of Communal Sections (CASECs) and the Administrations of the Communal Sections (ASECS) to better coordinate their activities for the good of the community and the Central State can accompany them to better face their responsibilities underlining "We must take seriously the seismic risks that are real enlaces for the populations who live in particular at the Morne l'Hôpital [...] It belongs to you members, of EICs and area Coordinators to raise awareness of the dangers facing them in relation to seismic risks." The various members of the EICs who took the floor mentioned the difficulties they face daily in relation to the anarchic constructions, which particularly abound on the flanks of ravines, hilly slopes or on the edges of precipices located in areas of ground movements and of debris unloading... Faced with the risks to which the inhabitants are subjected especially during the rainy season: floods, collapse of houses, landslides, among others... Ralph Youri Chevry promised the EICs all the support of the Communal Administration, strongly encouraging them to emphasize the prevention, awareness and training of the population. HL/ HaitiLibre
