On Tuesday afternoon Cesfront soldiers stationed in the border region of Dajabón and officers of the Border Intelligence Operations Department (OIDP) discovered in a van, 247 cartridges of 10 packages of contraband cigarettes branded "Comme Il Faut" from Haiti. The merchandise destined for the Dominican market was concealed in hidden compartments built in a gray van.

This merchandise was discovered while the Cesfront soldiers judging the behavior of a suspicious pickup truck, ordered the driver to stop. Rather than obey, the driver chose to accelerate in an attempt to avoid military control, but a few kilometers away the vehicle became stuck and the occupants abandoned the van and fled.

The soldiers then decided to bring the van to garage in town for an inspection. It was after dismantling parts of the vehicle that they uncovered the contraband in various caches.

The 2,470 packages of cigarettes and the vehicle were seized and handed over to the Department of Border Intelligence Operations for transmission to the Public Prosecutor's Office. The driver and his accomplices are actively sought after.
