Haiti - Social : Violence against Haitians in DR, the GAAR denies

The Group of Support for Returnees and Refugees (GARR) calls on the Haitian population to be cautious about false information circulating on the social networks.

Indeed, the GAAR observes for several days that "a certain situation of panic develops in the minds of the Haitian population both in Haiti and abroad, due to the dissemination of information (vocals, videos and photos) on social networks, which show scenes of violence against Haitian migrants living in the Dominican Republic..."

GARR has contacted several representatives of its partner organizations in the Dominican Republic "According to them, the information presented as current facts are totally false. Some of these are events that took place in 2015 in the neighboring Republic in particular, in Ortega, in the municipality of Moca."

The GAAR emphasizes that "the propagation of these false information is likely to cause a climate of tension between Haiti and the Dominican Republic."

While calling for vigilance, GARR urges those affected by the dissemination of these conflicting messages to promote a culture of peace and friendliness in order to foster harmonious relations between the two Nations of the island.
