Haiti - FLASH : Standoff between the government and labor unions
Unlike the demonstration announced earlier this weekn by the unions of workers in subcontracting, to continue to demand a minimum wage of 800 gourdes for a working day of 8 hours, the mobilization has failed, the majority of workers have been retained in factories.

According to trade unionists, this failure can be explained by the threats of revocation and promises from the employers to the workers to dissuade them from taking the streets.

For the trade unions this failure will not make them give up and struggle to obtain: a decent salary, social benefits and the reinstatement of recently laid-off workers for their participation in demonstrations

On Tuesday, following the failure, the unions announced that they were temporarily suspending calls for mobilization planned throughout the week. Thélémaque Pierre, spokesman for the trade union organization Plasit-Bo, said that this truce was being observed in order to allow trade union movements to define new strategies of struggle.

For several political observers, the threats and small sums paid to certain leading workers to break the movement of claim, will not resolve the crisis, convinced by the attitude of the Government and the intransigence of the unions, that a real struggle or standoff has just been launched between the workers and the Moïse -Lafontant Government
