Haiti - Politics : Workshop on the development of the border area

Friday, as part of the renewal of intentions and orientations in the Haitian-Dominican land border zone, the Ministry of Planning and External Cooperation (MPCE) organized an intersectoral workshop on the development and management of the border area, which brought together many executives of the public administration.

In his remarks, Stevenson Jacques Thimoléon, the Director General of the MPCE, stressed the importance of updating the strategy for the development and planning of the border strip developed by the Ministry, in order to present plausible and realistic solutions. In particular, he proposed inter alia to reflect on the financing problem and to review the strategy possibly based on successful models operating in other countries. It is necessary to develop a multisectoral program of interventions at the level of the border strip while updating the diagnosis of the border strip, he argues.

Peretz Ebert Peltrop, Director of Land Development and Local and Regional Development of the Ministry, said that the border vision of development and planning is a variation of the national vision and is thus formulated "The Haitian border strip : A dynamic territory, integrated into the national territory and administered ". He stressed that several objectives contribute to the implementation of this strategy, namely to integrate the border territory into national territory and to build a new space for economic and social development.

Aviol Fleurant, Minister of Planning intervening at the end of this workshop while welcoming this initiative called on the sectors concerned to do everything possible to energize the border strip. In this regard, the Committee recommended that an inventory of existing documentation be prepared to better prepare for the involvement of the different sectors in this area with a view to strengthening and modernizing infrastructure and promoting public and private investment for sustainable job creation.
