Saturday in Pétion-ville, a US citizen was shot dead by unidentified individuals as he was about to enter his vehicle, police sources confirmed on Sunday.

The police said that the murder took place on Saturday evening around 8 pm in Petion-ville. A Haitian resident who was close to the scene was also shot in the attack. He receives police protection in a local hospital waiting to be interrogated. No arrest in this case has been reported so far.

The US Embassy in Haiti said it was aware of the event, but had no comment to make, because of the investigation and of US privacy rules...

A source for the forensic unit said the American whose identity was not revealed, died on the spot, in what could be a deliberate assassination.

At the scene of the crime were found handgun bullets sleeves of two different calibres 9 mm and 11,43 mm (ammunition of colt 45).
