Haiti - Reconstruction : Chinese interested in the renovation of Port-au-Prince ! 28/08/2017 07:33:02 This very general draft contains proposals for water and drainage works, road improvements, environmental protection, drainage and sanitation, a communication network and the reconstruction of the old town of Port-au -Prince; The initial infrastructure investment is estimated at $ 4.711 billion, whose terms and conditions of financing are still unknown, as this proposal has not yet officially reached the gates of the Central Government or borrowed the official channels of bilateral cooperation. Caution is required faced this important draft project, which has to be put back for the moment in a preliminary marketing phase of a Chinese company, to a municipal politician, both of whom benefit in terms of visibility for one and political capital for the other, while waiting to learn more. Numerous large-scale projects are proposed from time to time in Haiti, but none so far was born... Letter from the Mayor of Port-au-Prince : "Port-au-Prince, August 25th, 2017 Mr. Xie Yong Jian Advisor Southwest Municipal Engineering Design and Research Institute of China No. 11, Xinghui Road, Jinniu District, Chengdu Sichuan, China Dear Mr. Xie: We are pleased to accept the "Port-au-Prince Municipal Renovation project construction planning, project proposal," a project that contains six (6) sub-projects, with a total infrastructure investment of USD $4.711 billion that includes: water and drainage works; road work; environmental sanitation works; communications and information network with infrastructure; and reconstruction of "old city" Port-au-Prince that includes a new market, commercial area and a new city hall plaza. Sound and sufficient infrastructure is a basic essential for a city's rapid growth and we understand that it will enhance the population's health and create a safe stable environment creating a solid base for economic development. Port-au-Prince, as Haiti's capital and industrial center with the largest port has tremendous potential for development. It is a paramount to commence the development of infrastructure to improve social welfare, create jobs, and boost economy after the earthquake in 2010. After thorough research and prudent consideration, the municipal government hereby supports the implementation of the Port-au-Prince Municipal Renovation Project by leveraging international investment and finance. We are thankful for this opportunity and look forward to working with Southwest Municipal Engineering Design and Research Institute of China in this project.
