Haiti - Economy : Jovenel Moïse met with Christine Lagarde Director of the IMF

Wednesday, on the sidelines of the 72th Ordinary Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, President Jovenel Moïse spoke of the priorities of his administration, with Christine Lagarde, Director General of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

In addition to the strengthening of republican institutions, were at the agenda the 5 key priorities for the Haitian government : clean energy; water management; infrastructure; public policies of a social nature (housing, education, minimum social security net etc...) and environmental policy.

The Head of State insisted on these reforms, particularly in the energy sector, as indispensable for attracting investment, providing basic services and creating jobs.

The President identified areas for high-quality investment, including the creation of a national electrical grid that will reduce the cost of production for subcontracting and agribusiness plants, using hydroelectric plants, biomass, natural gas, and solar and wind energy.

In addition, Moïse presented to Christine Lagarde of road infrastructure projects to connect the four proposed agro-export areas.

The presentation of hydraulic and sanitary infrastructure was also discussed.

For her part, Christine Lagarde praised the efforts of the Moïse Administration and the Lafontant Government, stressing that "the will of the authorities to improve the functioning of the institutions augurs the arrival of a better future for Haiti," an objective that the IMF is favorable to support.

At the end of the meeting, the Head of State and the Director General of the IMF agreed to continue discussions on concrete measures to support the implementation of the priorities of the Government of Haiti.
