Haiti - Insecurity : A deadly week for the police...
There is growing concern within the police force which has lost several of its members in a series of murders since the beginning of the year. The Champs de Mars has become the epicenter of violence but is far to be the only zone concerned...

Monday, January 24 :
Michel Wilfonde, Agent 3 assigned to the Bureau de Lutte contre le Trafic des Stupéfiants (BLTS) was shot dead on the morning of January 24 by unidentified persons at the corner of the Rues des Casernes and l'Enterrement. Witnesses said the killers were already there before the arrival of the victim. They waited until the police come down from his car to shoot him at point blank range before fleeing on a motorcycle...

Thursday, January 27:
The downtown Port-au-Prince has been the scene of a double murder on Thursday evening. Two officers of the Police Nationale d'Haiti (Johnny Jean Louis and Louis Titi) were killed in their car while they were returning home in company of a third officer and a citizen. The third policeman (Marie Judith Charles) received three shots (in the mouth, chest and arm) and passenger (Ralph Mathurin) was also injured. The car was targeted by walking gunmen who fled after their crime...

Friday, January 28:
Two police officers who had chased an individual who had fled after the beginning of a control were wounded by gunfire Friday morning at Frères. It was after a chase, while the individual abandoned his vehicle that the man opened fire on police. According to police sources, the individual identified in the name of Mackenson, would be an escaped prisoner. The latter is still on the run...

Friday, January 28:
Valcin Ricardo, a graduating student at the Faculty of Ethnology was shot and seriously wounded in the stomach before being robbed by several individuals. He was rushed to hospital for surgery.
