Haiti - Education : Official opening of the largest professional and technical center in Haiti

Monday, in the framework of the professional back 2017-2018, under the patronage of the Minister of National Education, Mrs. Maguy Durcé, the Director General of the National Institute for Vocational Training (INFP), in the presence of the Mayor of the Ministry of Youth, representatives of the Association for the Promotion of Education Abroad (APEFE) Wallonia-Brussels International, members of the private sector and the public administration, has officially opened the brand new Professional and Technical Center of Jérémie wharf in Cité Soleil.

According to Maguy Durcé, this vocational training center, symbol of economic development and social progress is the largest ever built in Haiti under the administration of former President Martelly. "No development is possible without quality vocational training of quality, based on demands for labor market competence [...] It is a necessary step to raise our labor force to meet the increasingly complex needs of the productive sectors.

Now, young people of Cite Soleil have a professional learning center where they will be able to learn a profession in various sectors such as: IT, building construction, electrical, plumbing, repair, cosmetology, industrial sewing, entrepreneurship amongst others...

The Center currently hosts 600 young people, operates in two sessions: 300 learners in the morning and 300 in the afternoon.

For Jean Marie B. Monrose, Director of the New vocational training center "The objective is to transform the commune of Cité Soleil into a real working city."
