Haiti - Security : Police represses anti-government demonstration

Tuesday the march announced by the opposition, left from popular neighborhoods, which gathered thousands of demonstrators to demand the departure of Jovenel Moïse, was intercepted at Delmas 60 by the agents of the Intervention Corps for the Maintenance of the Order (CIMO) with tear gas and irritating water cannon, to prevent the demonstrators from passing through Pétion-ville to go later to the city center.

According to the organizers who do not understand this intervention muscled, the course of the event and the passage through Pétion-ville had been notified in advance to the police and approved...

The intervention of the CIMO made the demonstrators furious and provoked in addition a movement of panic, triggered acts of violence. Individuals attempted to burn a gas station at Delmas 83 in vain, and various incidents and acts of vandalism were reported.

It should be noted that prior to the CIMO intervention unidentified individuals fired shots into the air with automatic weapons from a vehicle at Delmas 5 and Delmas 45 causing panic scenes among protesters and residents.

Jean Charles Moïse the leader of the platform of the radical opposition "Pitit Desalin" present at this demonstration confirmed that he was there to demand the departure of the Head of State "I am not on the concrete for something else. I am coming back from the North and the South, the whole country is demanding his departure because he has not listened to the demands of the masses."
