Haiti - Politic : PM remarks on current issues
Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant invited as part of the 20th edition of the Mondays of the ress reported about the insecure situation "We are working to establish security in the country. This is the condition for us to attract foreign investment at home," adding "smugglers must start to change jobs, because we will not tolerate smuggling..."

Regarding education he recalled "despite our limited resources we managed to pay more than 2,800 teachers who had not received their salary for 3 years..."

At the social level he said "[...] the whole population has the right to have access to drinking water. The state will support the private sector in this way, as it began in Port-de-Paix. Even if there are dissatisfied people, we believe that the public has the right to have electricity. The Government is working to make this a reality in the near future..."

Regarding infrastructures he announced "the 18 communes of the border line will be rehabilitated, with particular emphasis on the 3 major border cities" without further details...

Regarding the political parties, the Prime Minister said Lafontant "Political parties are the basis of democracy. The Government has a special fund to help political parties. In Haiti we want to have strong political parties, with the active participation of the population..."

Concluding on corruption he said "[...] corruption will not be tolerated. Clear instructions have been given to Ministers, Directors General and Public Servants in this regard. Without special permission, state employees can not use state vehicles like they want..."
