Haiti - Education : Launch of the Text Contest on the Battle of Vertières
Friday, as part of the activities planned during the year to promote citizenship education, Maxime Mésilas, the Director of Secondary Education of the Ministry of Education, accompanied by Lucien Jura, Spokesperson of the Presidency, launched the Text Contest for High School Students on the occasion of the commemoration of the Battle of Verrières on November 18, 2017.

This contest open to 240 high schools in the country and 2,033 private schools is an initiative of Pierre Josué Agenor Cadet, the Minister of National Education.

Maxime Mésilas explained that this competition aims on the one hand, to sensitize secondary school students on the symbolism of the battle of Vertières (November 18, 1803) and the dimension of the act posed by our ancestors to create our homeland and to on the other hand, reconnect with the tradition of commemoration each year of this important battle through activities likely to develop the spirit of solidarity and patriotism.

For his part, Lucien Jura explained the reasons for the Presidency to get involved in this activity, convinced that such initiatives will allow the country to have a pool of human resources patriot capable of transforming reality.

The text to be submitted, in Creole or in French, by the participants in this contest, must not exceed 4 pages. The deadline for the submission of texts in all the Departmental Directorates of Education (DDE) is set to 10 November 2017.
