Haiti - Caricom : First Edition of the month of energy in Haiti

Monday at Quisqueya University, President Jovenel Moïse, participated in the launch of the first Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Energy Month Edition in Haiti. This first edition, which takes the form of a forum and an exhibition around the theme "Rethinking Energy: Shaping a Resilient Community", is a joint initiative of the Energy Unit of the Ministry of Public Works and the Energy Unit of the CARICOM. This year, the role of renewable energies (solar, hydro, wind and biomass) and the importance of efficient use of resources will be at the forefront.

At the forum, Devon Gardner, Director of the CARICOM Energy Program, on behalf of Secretary-General Irwin LaRocque, urged governments and private entities to work for sustainable development and resilience to climate change, insisting "The environmental, social and economic resilience proposed by the Caricom Strategic Plan for this five-year period, can derive from energy systems designed to reflect the realities of countries," adding that "ecosystem protection, water production and security food are necessary."

The various sessions and workshops planned as part of this activity, which will mobilize several personalities in the energy sector, have as objectives, among others, the formulation of new energy policies, the solving of the main energy problems and the promotion of needs-based co-operation,

based on the needs and common interest of the Community while celebrating the significant progress in the region in its transition to sustainable development. These activities also aim to train, inform and educate decision-makers, stakeholders and the general population on energy issues.

This year, a prize will be awarded to a person from the energy sector for his contributions to sustainable development in the region.
